A synesthetic exhibition experience created by fragrant angels
The children's exhibition held at the Buk Seoul Branch of the Seoul Museum of Art is a major exhibition that shows a higher level of perfection than other children's exhibitions in terms of planning and completion. It can be said that it is a plan aimed at a wide range of the public, including children and adults, in that it selects the most notable artists in the contemporary art world and densely shows new perspectives that have not been shown before. This exhibition, which will last for one year starting in the summer of 2024, is a place where artist Shin Mi-kyung, who has been working with soap as a material for sculptures, presents various new works with the theme of 'angels'.

Intense images created by large-scale graphics
In this exhibition, the artist actively attempted to lead the high open wall space up and down along the stairs leading to the entrance of the exhibition hall into the exhibition. At the same time, the large wall beyond the bridge floating in the air connecting Exhibition Room 1 and the Project Gallery, which can be seen as soon as you enter the museum lobby, was included as an extended space for the children's gallery exhibition located in the basement. As a result, visitors will encounter the wall throughout the museum space, allowing them to come into contact with the exhibition at any time. Visitors descend to the basement through the entrance stairs of the exhibition hall and meet angels climbing the stairs applied to the side wall. The exhibition hall, consisting of a heterogeneous space finished with red carpet and walls in a white lobby, is filled with small, relatively small soap sculptures in colors chosen by the artist.

Sustainable materials of the exhibition
The pedestals used in the exhibition were developed in a way that maximized the use of materials from previous exhibitions that artist Shin Mi-kyung had kept. The recent issues of ESG and the controversy over exhibition waste continue to be important issues throughout the process of creating an exhibition. Accordingly, discussions continued on how to refurbish and recycle existing pedestals and utilize the crate boxes that contained the works. Sometimes, I discuss the recycling of structures with exhibition construction companies that have large warehouses, and I thought that the artist actually storing and maintaining the pedestals and display elements that are most suitable for his or her work for future exhibitions was a very professional attitude that I could emulate.

Embodying the artist's concept and intention
Embodiment of the actual concept was the biggest task given to designers participating in this exhibition, and there is room for reflection on whether this was clearly shared and communicated. Large-scale planning exhibitions, curator-centered exhibitions, and artist-centered exhibitions often have significantly different processes and results. In particular, in solo exhibitions, it is very important at what point the exhibition design participates in the project. The work of concretely implementing the exhibition that the artist is drawing and the work of drawing the picture itself together clearly show different results. Although it was a relatively short period of time compared to other exhibitions, I tried to understand the overall picture of the exhibition by visiting the artist's studio and talking directly with the curator. Although I was not able to actively coordinate many parts, I would like to watch how the audience accepts the intense and interesting context over the next year or so.
